Welcome to Generation-VHS.

In every edition, I’m going to pick a film that many people overlooked when they scanned the shelves of their local video stores: back in the ‘80s, the ‘90s and the early millennium.

Now, each of the films that I’ll choose work in many different ways, but all of them succeed because they create that one essential thing: their own atmosphere.

They set up a time and a place [however far-fetched] and follow through on that promise: from prologue to credits.

You can expect lots of praise for them, very little irony from me, maybe a few minor spoilers, and, if all goes well, perhaps one or two movies that you might recommend to your family or your friends.
